These gorgeous 1908 “No Motto” $20 Saint Gaudens Gold Coins have quite a remarkable history. At the start of the 20th century, President Teddy Roosevelt asked the famous Irish sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens to redesign the coin of the United States.
Saint Gaudens issues created in 1907 faced serious printing problems. In 1908, new issues were created with the motto “In God We Trust” removed from the coin. (Read more about “No-Motto versus Motto”)
